Actally we are where I have always been. The boot stops after the line
Net : Registered protocol family 2
The panic was under vmware it would boot further to the panic stage. The
changes you made fixed it under vmware only.

I'll get the photo but I want to try using a previous kernel from suse
10.1 as a failsafe to see it that works. Suse 10.1 worked fine for me.
