The best approach is usually to install as is, and then update the
*components*, for which you need newer versions.

AIUI, the reason Earnie bundled perl with msysDTK is because native
Win32 implementations, such as ActivePerl, just don't play nicely with

BTW, I noticed that you also posted to the MSYS forum. I'm seriously
