Dear loyal users, Thank you for using QuoteFixMacro. After several years of TOFU, I was trying to use "real" quotes again. Since I am now very more active on GitHub, I gave the macro a new home. The new URL is https://macros4outlook.github.io/quotefixmacro/. Feel free to use the GitHub issue tracker to file issues you encounter. In case you are a programmer, I would be happy if you filed updates through GitHub's pull request mechanism. I also took the freedom to try GitHub's new "discussion" feature, which is available at https://github.com/macros4outlook/quotefixmacro/discussions. Happy emailing! Since sourceforge lost all documentation for this project, here is a link to at least some of it. http://web.archive.org/web/20120316151928/http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/macros4outlook/index.php?title=QuoteFix_Macro Hope this helps others that may have wanted to try this project out. Hello, I was an happy user out the QuoteFix macro with OutLook 2007. Last night my IT departement updated us to OutLook 2013, and of course the macros are lost :-( Is there a version for OutLook 2013 or does it make sense to re-install the version I have used so far? Hey, I missed the time window for the wiki migration. Now I have (somewhere) a mediawiki dump and have to convert the content manually. Currently have no time for that. If someone else wants to take over please contact me :-) I personally switched to TOFU und therefore don't use this Macro any more. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Good morning. I'm having trouble locating the wiki for this project; it seems that SourceForge has shuffled things around and everything I try just redirects back to the SF project page, which doesn't have any documentation. Quick correction before someone takes personal offense because of my poor typing... The documentation in the Wiki _IS_ decent enough. T. |

I just realized that I sent a bunch of responses to individuals and not the list, so for the record, I am summarizing: Thank you for the comments/replies. I don't really have any interest in getting credit for these, and I don't know how to use SVN or any kind of code/project management system. If someone here wants to verify that my code isn't malicious and include it (even as their own), I'm fine with that. I'm just hopeful that someone else will find a smidgeon of value in the macros. Random Signature: I have attached a text file (.vba) with better designed and commented code. The fortune-cookie (EmailSigs.txt) file now uses a more "human-readable" syntax, and has no settings to change internally except possibly the EmailSigs.txt path which is now set to a more standard "%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\EmailSigs.txt" View Headers: The only way I can find to see the header information in 2010 is to open the email message and select the "Properties" button under the "File" ribbon/menu. What you get is a tiny, 90x375 pixel sub-box in which to view the header. I find it more obtuse than it should be. I have no doubt that it could be done better than what I have hacked together, but it suits my purposes. The "Inspector" problem: I don't really understand the "inspector" designation, thus I'm not sure how to recognize that a user wants to see the header of a message only selected (and maybe viewed in preview) in the main window for example. I also don't understand why someone would need to deal with signatures except in a compose-mail window. Documentation: The documentation in the Wiki isn't decent enough (It got me working with QuoteFix!). I would think adding these would be fairly straightforward. LastNames: BTW, awhile back, I posted (under another of my names) a .diff file in the project's "Patches" area covering some changes I made to the main QuoteFix macro which make the name parsing a little smarter and offer a possible option for both first and last name. I didn't know if anyone ever looked there, so I thought it should be pointed out. Thanks again. |

Hi, > The first is simply a form and macro to easily display a mail message's > header information. (Why does MS make that so difficult?) you can open the context menu of a mail item and select the last entry "options" (or whatever it is called in an English Outlook). Do you need a quicker way to get this information? > If TypeName(Application.ActiveWindow) = "Inspector" Then > Set Msg = Application.ActiveWindow.CurrentItem > End If In which case is "Inspector" true? I tried this from the main view and got an exception as typename resolves to "Explorer". Please advice what I have to do. Lars |

Hi, > Next, is a macro for generating a random, "fortune cookie" signature. I guess this could be added as some kind of "contrib" sub-project, but some things would need to be added/changed: - Information on how to add this to Outlook - Information on how and where to create the EmailSigs.txt - Use "%userprofile%\EmailSigs.txt" instead of "%userprofile%\Documents\EmailSigs.txt" - Don´t have the signature set in the code, but use the one that Outlook would insert - Same problem with 'TypeName(Application.ActiveWindow) = "Inspector"' as with GetInetHeaders() - Add more comments in the code on what the functions do - Provide this as a file rather than text I am neither the main developer nor do I have much knowledge about Outlook, but I will see what I can do. Since this project is called "Macros for Outlook" and not just QuoteFix, I thought I would offer up a couple of macros that I had to make for myself (despite very little programming skill -- especially with VB) because they are sorely missing from Outlook. The first is simply a form and macro to easily display a mail message's header information. (Why does MS make that so difficult?) I've attached a .zip of the text of the macro and the exported form files, but the macro text is also below. ======== Show Headers ======== Sub GetInetHeaders() ' Purpose: Returns the internet headers of a message.' Dim Msg As Outlook.mailItem If TypeName(Application.ActiveWindow) = "Inspector" Then Set Msg = Application.ActiveWindow.CurrentItem End If Const PR_TRANSPORT_MESSAGE_HEADERS = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/mapi/proptag/0x007D001E" Dim olkPA As Outlook.PropertyAccessor Set olkPA = Msg.PropertyAccessor EditText (olkPA.GetProperty(PR_TRANSPORT_MESSAGE_HEADERS)) Set olkPA = Nothing End Sub Sub EditText(sText As String) Dim frm As ViewHeadersForm Set frm = New ViewHeadersForm frm.TextBox1.text = sText frm.Show 'vbModal End Sub ======== Form is attached (hope that's allowed) Next, is a macro for generating a random, "fortune cookie" signature. I wanted something similar to the "Signature Switch" Thunderbird add-on. This was the best I could do. It will create a fixed signature for your name and contact info and then append a randomly selected quote. The quotes require a quotes file (defaulting to %userprofile%\Documents\EmailSigs.txt) that you create formatted with one quote/line and "\n" representing VBCrLf for when the signature is added. The formatting is funny, but as I said, I'm no good at programming. ======= Random Signature ======= Option Explicit Private Const strQuotesFileRelPath As String = "\Documents\EmailSigs.txt" Private Const strFixedSigPart As String = vbCrLf _ & "--" & vbCrLf _ & "em...@ex... Important Department" & vbCrLf _ & " 888-555-1212 Corporate Entity" & vbCrLf _ & vbCrLf Sub NewMailMessage() Dim Msg As Outlook.MailItem Set Msg = Application.CreateItem(olMailItem) Call MakeSig(Msg) Msg.Display Set Msg = Nothing End Sub Sub SwapSig() Dim Msg As Outlook.MailItem If TypeName(Application.ActiveWindow) = "Inspector" Then Set Msg = Application.ActiveWindow.CurrentItem End If Dim strSigLine As String strSigLine = InStrRev(Msg.Body, ("--" & vbCrLf)) If strSigLine <> 0 Then Msg.Body = Left(Msg.Body, strSigLine - 3) End If Call MakeSig(Msg) End Sub Private Sub MakeSig(ByVal Msg As MailItem) Dim numLines As Integer Dim strFilePath As String Dim arrLines() As String Dim intRandom As Integer numLines = 0 strFilePath = Environ$("userprofile") & strQuotesFileRelPath If Dir(strFilePath) <> "" Then ' Open the file for reading Open strFilePath For Input As #1 ' Go over each line in the file and save it in the array + count it Do Until EOF(1) ReDim Preserve arrLines(numLines + 1) Line Input #1, arrLines(numLines) numLines = numLines + 1 Loop Close #1 Else MsgBox ("Quotes file wasn't found!") End If ' Initalize the RNG seed based on system clock Randomize ' Get the random line number intRandom = Int(numLines * Rnd()) + 1 ' Insert the random quote Msg.Body = Msg.Body & strFixedSigPart Msg.Body = Msg.Body & Replace(arrLines(intRandom), "\n", vbCrLf) End Sub ======== Even though this project appears to be largely forgotten, I've really appreciated how it makes Outlook behave a bit like it should. I hope someone finds these useful. T |

Hello and a happy new year, We proudly announce Relase 1.5 of QuoteFixMacro. Changelog: * bugfix: When a mail was signed or encrypted with PGP, the reformatting would yield incorrect results * bugfix: When a sender´s name could not be determined correctly, it would have thrown an error 5 * Letters of first name are also lower cased * Only the first word of a potential first name is used as first name * support for fixed firstNames for configured email adresses The most important change is introduction of fixed first names. Sometimes, one wants to call someone by a nick name. E.g., one wants to call "Jennifer Muster" just "Jenny". Sometimes, someone does not put his full first name in the Email. E.g., "Adelinde Muster" has "a.m...@ex...". QuoteFixMacro supports that now. A detailed instruction for configuration is availble at https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/macros4outlook/index.php?title=QuoteFix_Macro#Custom_Firstnames Best, Oliver |

Moin Lars et al., Ok, thanks for the affirmation! I had another look; html mails (which are configured to be displayed as text mails) seem to be ok generally. Mails from GMX(.de) were fine as far as I tested these; yet, some from web.de were fine, others not... ah, the fine mail from web.de was sent with Outlook express - the other one probably was sent with the web interface. Both UTF8... Perhaps it depends on whether only text or text+html is sent? Dear all, First thanks for the makro, which is really great! Yet, I stumbled across the following problem: sometimes, all text lines which follow each other directly are thought to be part of the same paragraph and 'merged' together. That's fine for lines which were parts of a continuous paragraph, which was splitted due to the restrictions to a maximum number of characters per line. I.e., the following text: A first line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. is sometimes converted to: > A first line. > A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A > second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A > second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. but sometimes to: > A first line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second > line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A > second line. A second line. A second line. A second line. A second > line. A second line. Don't know yet what's the cause for it... any ideas? Thanks & best!, Hinnerk |

What I do at the moment is that I have a "signature" containing just a template for QuoteFix macro (which must be added automatically for QuoteFix macro to work) but not my name, etc., plus 3 real signatures from which I usually select one and add it manually via Insert Signature in the ribbon. Obviously, functionality for reformatting the text with ">" is provided directly by MS Outlook. The point is whether there is a way to either hook the moment when a signature is being added (e.g. via this Insert Signature button) and only process it if the macro contains the defined template markers (%x) or if the macro functionality could be alternatively triggered by another button in the message editing window instead of combining it with the Reply button functionality, i.e. doing it while opening the message editing window.
