This gcov option is not supported by lcov. It looks promising though and may be a good candidate for a future improvement.  Yet I fear that this would require a fundamental change to lcov's internal data structures, given that the current data granularity is execution count per line and the -a option would require more than one execution count per line.

Can you publish the full kerneldump?
Did you try to build (and boot) kernel 2.6.16 without gcov patch applied
(I guess in your machine is some newer hardware, where the kernel
support was not there [or ready] in kernel version 2.6.16)?

I tried to do it on several machines
on some of them I first tried to run  the kernel 2.6.16 and it went well
but when I applied the patch I had problems (the operation system crushed).

I tried to use 32_bit system and 64_bit system but on both cases I failed

Can you publish the full output of the segfault, e.g. extract the
important data from /var/log/messages (if the segfault can be written to
it). At least it would be interesting which function throws the error 7.

Btw, can you try the new gcov patch for 2.6.21?
