over the last few days I've been working on the lirc-0.7.0pre6 package,
it started out with the wish of adding sysfs (which also means udev) and
2.6 devfs support and it ended up encompassing a slew of other changes.

And it's also broken out into individual patches in order to ease review
of the changes at:
Most of the things which were known broken with lirc-0.7.0pre6 (such as
some of the USB modules on 2.6) are still broken, I'm mostly interested
in code review and to see if the devfs/sysfs support works as intended
and that the patch doesn't cause any regressions.
It works for me (famous last words) with a 2.6.6 kernel, I've only
tested lirc_serial so far and the device appears in /sys/class/lirc/ as
