makes me wonder about the lexical capabilities of a dutch linguist...

but don't underestimate the prowess of poles in this field (no pun

I do, _if_ I think the prospective client has enough clue to use linux (or
*bsd).  And never for a server, whether the client has clue or not.

Some of my friends run a pretty decent quizzing site - that apparently got
h4x0r3d a few days back.  Surprise, surprise... running unpatched NT and
serving websites with IIS ...

Is this on a LAN with windows machines?  137 .. 139 are netbios ports.
Turn off netbeui on your windows boxes ... or just have your firewall
(lokkit) accept and junk the netbios requests.

file which gets read is ".bashrc".  Settings in  .bash_profile

copy your current kernel image to /boot/bzImage-2.4.17

and assuming you are currently running 2.4.9 you'll find an entry like
this in menu.lst

# For booting Linux
title  Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /bzImage-2.4.9 root=/dev/hda12
--snip--

now *add* another entry into menu.lst right below the existing one.

# For booting My Custom Linux Kernel
title  My Custom Linux Kernel
root (hd0,0)
kernel /bzImage-2.4.17 root=/dev/hda12
--snip--

And you reboot the machine and you'll find the entry in the grub menu for
your new kernel.

Shot in the dark.. maybe one of the systems is using an encrypted password
and the other is using plain text... check your configuration.

partition.

I tried
$sed 's/new/old/' < test.txt >newtest.txt

It replaces the first occurance.
I want somthing like changing all the mached string recursively in the
directory tree.

perl -pi -e "<your regex>" <your files>

You wont find a more powerful regex than what perl offers.
