welcome to the team!
Without PHP knowledge it will be hard to follow the current code, which
partly is a mess, this is the reason why we are working on Limesurvey 2,
a complete rewrite. Limesurvey 2 uses much more Javascript so you might
be of much help. Please contact project leader Carsten Schmitz
(carsten.schmitz.hh@...) so he can point you to tasks we need help
with.
I suggest to set up Limesurvey 1.85+, which you have probably done
already, and also Limesurvey 2 alpha to take a look at the new version.
Since you mentioned you are interested in UI and design, take a look at
the logs of our Limesurvey 2 UI meeting which takes place every
Saturday:
