I've tried out your patch and it looks quite impressive (however, I didn't get 
any LaTeX preview only some boxes ;-)). I also think that in the long run this 
will be an interesting feature for Kile.

However, some changes will be required before this can get into Kile. I think 
that the biggest piece of work will consist in modifying KatePart (the editor 
component) so that the preview can be shown properly. Additionally, the code 
for creating the preview can probably be shared with the preview feature that 
is present in Kile already. Finally regarding the parser, a full rewrite is 
scheduled for one of the future releases. So, for now, I think it is ok to use 
your own parser but later on the regular parser could then be used.

So, if you want, please open a wish on bugs.kde.org and post you upcoming 
patches there. In this way we won't forget about this exciting feature!

Not really. It's just another macrolanguage of TeX — like LaTeX is.

Kile already includes the beforementioned .cwl auto-completion file for 
ConTeXt and can generate PDF and DVI from ConTeXt (I _think_ I had to 
include the ConTeXt highlighting[1] by hand)

I imagine that the templates are just plaintext files that get packaged 
with Kile (or made by the user) there shouldn't be any difficulty to add 
support for ConTeXt there.

The status quo (2.1._beta3) is that when creating a new document the only 
templates available from the dropdown menu are "LaTeX", "BibTeX" and "Kile 
Scripts". While when saving a template the _only_ option is "LaTeX".

All I'm asking for now is if in a later release it would be possible to 
save and load ConTeXt templates from Kile. I'm no expert, but I could 
bodge together some simple templates for inclusion.

Later on we could also extend the wizard to include ConTeXt as an option. 
The only "problem" could be usability, since ConTeXt has a ton more 
options then LaTeX.

Yes, adding templates is not a big issue. So, please feel free to send some 
templates. :-)

think just use listing package and pygmentize for python syntax
highlighting.

yes, just installed kate and tested also with kwrite and both have that 
same problem.
It must be some interfacing problem between scim and kde.

thanks for the quick reply. I tried to install what you suggested with:

and got the following message:
No debuginfo packages available to install

I checked with

yum list | grep kde

which version I have installed, and the number 4.4.1 shows up quite
often. I guess this is my kde version but I have no idea.

I even tried to install kile version 2.0.1 with a tarball, but here
the installation itself does not work.

But why stopped kile suddenly working completely at all? This does not
make any sense.

There is a section  [fedora-debuginfo] in my
/etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and a section [updates-debuginfo] in
fedora-updates.repo as well. And the command

pm -qa | grep debuginfo

shows a lot of output. Anything that I should look for?

Yes, its kde 4.4.1!

I tried to change the font in kile-> Settings-> Configure kile because
I was trying to change the font I have in the final pdf document.

No changed behavior. kile works when I start it as root (!), and when
I start kile as a normal user I get a dialog box asking if I would
like to update tools (something with a change from kde3 to kde4) and
whatever the choise, kde crashed. I am including the crash report
again, not sure if its the same.

Its no problem in both of them (although I had to install kate for this test).



Any other suggestions to try??

What did you change exactly? The font in the configuration dialog?

Can you also try to do a "killall -9 kile" on the command line and then start 
Kile again?

Can you open a LaTeX file properly in kwrite/kate?

Yes, "kdelibs-debuginfo" should ideally appear there.

(Just for your information, none of the settings there will change LaTeX 
fonts. They just apply to the editor.)

(There was no second crash report ;-))

Ok, it looks like something is wrong with the configuration files. Can you try 
to (re)move the directory "~/.kde/share/apps/kile/" and also remove 
"~/.kde/share/config/kilerc", which I believe you have done already?

Additionally, can you try to run "kdebugdialog", activate the output for Kile, 
then run Kile from the command line and paste the output here?
