I have been using kaffeine for a while as a very convenient DVB
system. But I have recently upgraded my Debian system from lenny to
squeeze, which brought in the new version. Unfortunately it has bug
255000, which I see as a serious regression. I have just had a very
unpleasant remote experience with it; I have posted it to the bug.
I am away from home and my wife was in a different city watching and
recording satellite TV using Kaffeine (instant recording only).
Suddenly the hard drive overfilled. She tried logging out, could not
log back in, but I guided her through removing something over the
console and she logged back in.
But, kaffeine was inoperative. On EVERY channel she could only see "no
available device found". There was no way to stop that phantom
recording, there was no channel which would be showing as recording.
Luckily I was hit by this bug before, and I thought at the time it was
config corruption, so I had a backup of a known good
.kde/share/apps/kaffeine . I have guided her through restoring that
backup. That made kaffeine operative.
PLEASE FIX THIS. I am considering forwardporting kaffeine 0.8.3 to
squeeze just for this bug.
(As an additional aside, the instant recording icon in squeeze looks
the same whether recording or not, but slightly "pressed". In 0.8.3 it
was a big red button when recording. But perhaps that's a Debian issue
not a kaffeine one?)
