Greetings, fellow developers!
It has been a few months since our last update to JTOpen, but I think you
will find it worth the wait. JTOpen 4.0 is now publicly available for
download off of the IBM developerWorks website at
Formerly, JTOpen was only available via the official IBM Toolbox for Java
website. Due to the lifting of certain restrictions, however, we are now
able to provide an easier download mechanism on the developerWorks JTOpen
project page. Note that the Toolbox for Java download links are not yet
updated, and we appreciate your patience as we move our JTOpen resources to
the developerWorks website.
The best part of JTOpen 4.0 is that we were able to open source nearly all
of the remaining source code that had been withheld since our first
release. What this means to most of you is that you can now view the
source code for the fabled "AS400 object".
A changes.html file has been added to the project to track individual code
changes made by the team and third-party developers. This file is also
available on the developerWorks downloads page mentioned above.
Another major change with the release of JTOpen 4.0 is an improved build
process that makes it much easier for users to compile the JTOpen source
code. JTOpen 4.0 is now built using JDK 1.4.1, which eliminates many of
the pre-requisite products we had in earlier releases. See the updated
Apache Ant build.xml file in the JTOpen source tree for details.
Here is a brief summary of the files you will find on the JTOpen Project's
- jtopen_4_0.zip : This contains all of the Toolbox jar files, along with
the V5R2 Programmer's Guide.
- jtopen_4_0_source.zip: This contains a snapshot of the JTOpen CVS
- jtopen_4_0_javadoc.zip: This contains a snapshot of the JTOpen 4.0
javadoc. This is newer than what is included in the Programmer's Guide.
- changes.html: This contains a list of specific code fixes that have
been made to JTOpen since the last release (3.3).
As always, problems and questions can be posted to our web forum at
http://www-912.ibm.com/j_dir/JTOpen.nsf/By+Date?OpenView and JTOpen
bugs/fixes can be reported to the JTOpen bug database at
Thank you all for your continued support of our project! Enjoy!
