JFF Network Management System (NMS)

Hello,

I moved my jffnms 0.8.3 to another hardware, everything is working fine, except when I try to edit a host, the select lists: Zone, AutoDiscovery Policy, AD Default Customer and Config Transfer Mode looks empty, I checked the Zones, Customers, etc. from Menu, and they are with the correct data, so I don't know why these select lists are empty...

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any possibility to configure a trigger that it only sends
notifications after the second time an alarm or event occurred?
I thought of using an action script to start a second trigger that
sends the mail after the alarm still persists, but I have no clue
how to do this (I'm using v 0.8.3).

The problem is rebooting machines which causes 2 mails to
be sent, so I'm looking for a way to wait for a longer time until
sending the messages.

Any help is highly appreciated.

I found an interesting little quirk with the PHP crypt function. This
function encrypts your admin and user passwords for JFFNMS.

Initially this used to produce a 8 character or 32 character hash which
fitted within the 50 character database field.  It seems that some
installations of PHP use better types of crypting which is good.
Unfortunately the resulting hash is 96 characters long. This means the
hash didn't fit into the database so it never matches.

You'll see this problem when you update your password and then can never
login with that user. The fix is easy:

ALTER TABLE `auth` MODIFY `passwd` varchar(200);

Put that into you mysql command line and your passwords work.

Just installed jffnms on Debian 6 and it looks promising. I wanted to install TACACS+, but the package from the jffnms website doesn't compile.

Any instructions would be appreciated.

  It looks like I've cracked the problem with the parent/child processes
used in the engines such as the pollers and autodiscovery. They're
behaving themselves nicely now and its a lot cleaner with a parent
object looking after the polling items and children.

I'll let it soak for a while on my computer and if it does actually
behave itself there will be another RC.  The code is already in the git
repository on sourceforge.

Hi,
  As there have been two RC editions of 0.9.0 you might be wondering
where we are at with 0.9.0.  There really have been two problems.
The first is its the cold season here so while I've avoided it, others
haven't been so fortunate and that's taken time away.

The second is that the parent/child fork code within the engines has
always been a bit of a hack.  I cleaned up the child code dramatically
but now I'm getting processes hanging and unfinished jobs.

PHP version 5 has some better process handling which I'm starting to put
into the parent process. As and added bonus you also don't need to use a
shell (which consumes memory) for the child process.  The problem is I'm
halfway between the old and new so i get wierd things like the process
tree down the bottom.

Autodiscovery is right, but the pollers are lurking. When that gets
sorted, then 0.9.0 can get out.
