Summary: "open" dialogue: crash when opening file

Initial Comment:
I have a snapshot of 2005-09-28. When I use the "open" dialogue   
to browse for opening SVG files, Inkscape crashes almost 
immediately after the file is chosen with mouse ("open" button is 
not even clicked"). I think this happens due to a problem when it 
tries to generate the preview.

Summary: stroke dashes disappear in eps files

Initial Comment:
when recording in .eps and opening file in Illustrator,
stroke or minus dashes (this - , i prefer to show
because english is not my mother tongue and i'm not too
sure) have disappeared, and a large blank space have
replaced them.

Summary: layers are gone switching from linux to windows

I (missive@...) created a file with 
Inkscape-0.42 on Gentoo Linux. The image has 4 
layers. When I open the file on windows xp, the file 
has only one layer.

Ok. I had another chance to look at the xp version of   
inkscape.   
   
The layers dialog is not greyed out. On a new file, I am   
able to create new layers and the layers work perfectly.   
   
However, when I load the earlier linked file (which shows   
4 layers when loaded on my linux system) there is only  
one layer called "Layer 1".  
 
I forgot to take a screenshot, but it looked quite like the 
layer switcher on a new document. I can't remember if 
there was a choice called "(root)" or not though. I will try 
to get to it again....

If layer names are grayed out this does not mean they're
gone. It means they're hidden. Just unhide them.

I do not run windows, so it is tough for me to test. I 
remember that the layers switcher was mostly just 
grayed out. It was less like it was all in one layer than it 
was like there were no layers. 
 
I actually never tested a new file to see if the layer 
switcher worked at all. 
 
I may be able to see that xp laptop again tomorrow, and 
I will try some more extensive tests....

Tested the file on win2k, cannot see this. All 4 layers are
present. Can you explain how you see that "the file has only
one layer"? can you make a screenshot of the layers list,
for example?

Nope. No way to attach a file to the bug.

There is an "upload file" field on the new bug report form.
I used that when reporting the bug, but the file is not there.

There is no "upload file" field when viewing the bug.

I can email the file to you, but I think it would be better
to attach it to the bug report.

Sorry... I attached a file when submitting the bug, but it  
is not there now. Also, now I do not see any way to
