There has been much discussion on the direction of FOSS.IN/2008
an my intention is not to start another argument over that. Instead,
I suggest that we take FOSS.IN at their word, and go there with a
development-focused agenda. In our case, this does mean that
linguists need to be involved in the process, and FOSS.IN organisers
have agreed with that.
So, here is a synopsis of the plans, growing out of discussions on
IRC. Please feel free to comment on any part of it, though time is
getting short as the deadline for submissions is the 16th. Hence,
any discussion should wind up by the 15th.:
1. Format of participation: I would vote that we do not go in for
a project of the day this year, as I do not see how talks in
a large hall would translate easily to intensive coding sessions.
Instead, we should go in for 3-hour workouts, with any followups
in informal BoF sessions. For anyone who is interested, talks
can be submitted independent of this plan. Please do comment
on this immediately.
2. Preparation: Assuming the above format, the Workouts section
on the Wiki is the place to go:
Anyone, who is interested, please edit that section along the
lines of the entries already there. I have added stubs for some
ideas, so please feel free to take these over. Please make sure
to mention your name, and a synopsis of the proposed work,
covering background, current status, preparatory work, specific
plans for FOSS.IN, and future plans. Each submitter will also
be expected to keep this list informed of progress on the
preparatory work. We will finally narrow these down to a list
of 5-6 submissions on the 16th.
