You can compile on one machine and install on another, in theory at
least. If the machines have the same hardware architecture and the
same, or similar, operating systems, you might be able to get away with
a static build that will run on both. If you do this, keep in mind that
some of the paths are hardcoded in executables; on the build machine,
it will be necessary to specify paths appropriate for the box to which
you plan to deploy. If the two machines differ significantly in any
way, you are probably heading down a rocky road with this approach.
