First, I apologize for my poor English, but I'll try to be as
understandable as possible.
I'm a French student in computer sciences in a famous French college
(UTC, for Université de Technologie de Compiègne).
It's not the first time I come on this list. The last time, I was only
in middle school and I wanted create a French community around
FlightGear. It has become http://fr.flightgear.tuxfamily.org. But
because of my studies, I had to quit flightgear for a while.
Today, for my school, I have to work on a project around the GUI
concept. I immediately think at FGFS, because I want to come back and
have fun with it, and if possible, participate in the community.
With 3 others students we have an idea that I want to introduce to
you, and it would be great if you could give us some advice or
First we have thought to recreate things like fgrun with more fun...
But after discussion with some great and active people in the French
community, it appears not to be the most relevant thing to do.
By the way, this project include something which is apparently a good
idea to develop and it's what I'll present to you.
The goal of the project is to add a "career mode" to fgfs. By this
term we mean a mode which conduct the player from the grad of pilot
student to captain.
My school compel us to have a real reflexion on GUI, and precisely on
screen-writing. It's why we couldn't (lack of time...) really work on
the fgfs source code. We'll probably create new app' which would come
in complement of fgrun and fgfs itself. But maybe if we have time, we
would work to integrate our work in fgrun. It would be great for us if
our work gets this sort of recognition.
We think about two major parts in the project : first learn some
basics to the pilot student in some interactive way. Sort of flight
Second prepare your flight like a real flight with nice interface to
create your flight plan etc. In the project group we have a real pilot
student and I know a captain. So we have backing to do great things.
Is it something interesting or not ? If you want more precision, ask me :)
