Hi, ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.3 has just been released. This is a hotfix release for the new 1.0.x cores, of which proper packages are available now as well (there has been a numbering change in the core package versioning). The binaries are now called /usr/bin/overnetclc and /usr/bin/edonkeyclc. ed2k-gtk-gui 0.6.3 _requires_ a 1.0.x core (at least if you use it locally). It should work with older v5x cores as well, but don't complain if it doesn't. GUI and core Packages and GUI source code can be found at the usual location: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net A short overview of the changes can be found here: http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net/files/ChangeLog-short Most notably, starting and connecting to a locally running core should be dead easy now and not require any weird configuration of the core etc. any more. Installation of the core should be dead easy as well now given that there are ready-made RPM and .deb packages for most i386/Linux flavours. Enjoy and a great weekend to everyone Cheers -Tim |

Hi everyone, if you feel adventurous today, please give the following packages a try. I am especially interested in comments from people who run the GUI and the core on the same machine, to see how well the new connect dialog / core running detection works, and if it's newbie friendly etc. I am also interested in feedback about the RPM packages. I created them with alien from the .deb packages, so I'm not entirely sure how well they work ... Hi all, I'm working on Burrito, a simple proxy to provide multiuser access to the eDonkey/overnet core. Using Burrito you can have multiple GUIs connected to the core simultaneously. This is great news for all those out there that run a core on a LAN and are stuck with the one-controller-at-a-time limitation in the core. With Burrito you'll no longer need to waste bandwidth and resources running multiple cores or fight for control of it :P Burrito is just the framework for the larger goal of turning overnet/ed2k into a system service. Right now it just multiplexes access to the core, but there are plans to have it run access policies and do per-user filtering and etc, eg. only show you your downloads / uploads, restrict which options can be set by users, etc. However we need to do a lot of testing on Burrito before we can go for more ambitious. So, developers and testers, go and test this stuff! A very pre-alpha source tree for Burrito is living in the GUI SourceForge cvs repository under the 'burrito' module. Look at INSTALL and README for help, and don't hesitate to mail me for help getting it running. cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/ed2k-gtk-gui co burrito BTW, you will _need_ a cvs GUI for everything to work properly, because Tim and I had to do some little extensions to the gui-core protocol. Older GUIs will show bogus data. GUI 0.6.3 will be 100% compatible with Burrito once it's released to the masses. More info on Burrito will appear in the gui website soon. GO BURRITO! tautologist PS: maybe you get 2 very similar mails, I sent one a while ago but I think i fucked up and used the wrong address, so apologies in advance for spamming, this is the right one! |

Hi all, I'm working on Burrito, a simple proxy that provides multiuser capabilities to a regular eDonkey/overnet core, allowing multiple GUIs to connect to a core at the same time. This is great news for groups of people who share a core in a network, etc. Right now functionality is very limited but it is somewhat usable, with some annoyances (see README and INSTALL). At this point this is only the framework for additional development that will enable true multiuser in the core, meaning in the future Burrito will filter packets on a per-user basis, show you only your downloads, do access policies on options, etc. It currently is a simple multiplexer. But before we go into the serious codewanking we need a lot of testing to make sure the essentials are working fine, so go ahead and try out Burrito!!!!! You can check it out from gui cvs, under the 'burrito' module: cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/ed2k-gtk-gui co burrito You will need CVS gui too, because Tim and I had to do some minor fixes and workarounds. If you don't use a CVS gui then you'll get funny behavior. See instructions in INSTALL for testing the stuff, and mail me or this list for help / comments / bug reports / whatever.
