I have herewith attached the output when I did 
./configure
make
make install

Pls help me out. I am kind of new to this

Summary: Build of mypopen.c fails in FreeBSD 4.5

Initial Comment:
The constant HAVE_SETMODE is set to a 1 in config.h for
FreeBSD likely due to the fact that FreeBSD does have a
setmode function.  However, it is apparently _not_ the
same function as used in mypopen.c since it is called
with two arguments there yet the FreeBSD setmode
function takes only one argument.  (The second argument
being O_TEXT leads me to suspect that this is a windows
specific usage.)

Yes, indeed, this setmode() call is meant to turn on text
file mode for systems where text and binary files are really
different (MSDOS and all its followers).  I guess this means
the "configure" test will have to be based on something else
than the existence of setmode() itself... 

Will have to ponder this for a while.

Hi Ray,

I must admit that I haven't touched the IA64 version for some time. I'll
see if I can come up with something over the next couple of days. Of
course any tips/fixes would be much appreciated ;o)

cscope -q mode (which is the only mode involving a sorting stage) is not
exactly the most stable thing on earth when run on 64bit platforms.  It
has taken quite some kicking and prodding to get it to work on a 64bit
Alpha/DigitalUnix machine at all, and there may still be some dark
corners.

Even less so if you're still using cscope version 15.1.  You really should
switch to 15.3, or maybe even the public CVS sources.  I fixed at least
one major bug in -q mode for 64 bit since 15.1.  To quote the ChangeLog:

(2001/06/01 - broeker) Fix 64bit-related bug in invlib.c that caused the symbol
                       'sun' to not be found on DigitalUnix/Alpha platform.

Ah, yes, that was a typo my email.  The rpm tested and the source code
tested were both from 15.3.  Oh well, I've got cross build tools and can
run cscope on an IA32 box instead.

In that case it should have worked.  Could you perhaps provide a
reproducible test case for which it fails?  Something substantially
smaller than the whole Linux source tree, preferrably ;-)

How long did you wait to conclude that it would "never complete"?  We are
talking about an external sorting procedure working on a million or more
lines of text, after all, so this could take quite some time.  It should
be showing lots of HD activity unless you have a lot of RAM for sort to
consume, and it was configured to use that.

It might even be a bug in /usr/bin/sort itself that you've exhumed here.

I let it run overnight....The system was running with around 900 MB of
RAM.  I don't recall if there was disk activity or what at the time.

Many things are possible.

I'll see if I can reproduce with something smaller.
