[courier-users] ./configure produces error in 0.45.1 on freebsd 4.8

When trying to configure i get this:


checking whether -lresolv is needed for res_query... configure: error: 
Cannot find function res_query
configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for authlib

my configure command looks like this:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/courier --without-ipv6 
--with-mailuser=courier --with-mailgroup=courier

any ideas ?

This is a known issue.

This will be fixed in my next build, or you can pull it from CVS.

This change was made quite some time ago; it looks like nobody running BSD 
has bothered to try any of the test builds that lead up to the previous 
release.

[courier-users] filesystem-based shared folders after update to 0.45.1

Hi,

after the update to courier-0.45.1 (mta and imap, the whole package)
old filesystem-based shared-folders are not longer working correctly.

Prior to the update all users were able to delete msgs in the shared
folder. Now this is not longer possible(at least with Mozilla 1.6 and
mutt 1.4.1i). Filesystem permissions have not changed.


I did some testing and found out the following:

[courier-users] authenumerate not working (authldap)

authenumerate does not return any accountname:

I am using here courier-0.45.1 with FC1. Users have unix-system accounts
and a virtual mail account. Account information for both is stored in
openldap. Mail delivery, imap etc. is working.

README.sharedfolders.html says that I have to change a configuration
setting in order to be able to enumerate accounts. For mysql/postgresql
this is obviously *_ENUMERATE_CLAUSE, but what for ldap?

The relevant sections of /etc/courier/authldaprc:

I installed Courier 0.45.0 with pop3, smtp, imap and webmail.<br>
Pop3 is working fine, everything that I send with 'echo ...' command on the
local machine  gets in recipient's Maildir and is retrieved with Mozilla
Mail on both local and network neighborhood machine afterwards with no problem.<br>

I found an error in <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.courier-mta.org/courier.html">www.courier-mta.org/courier.html</a> where is default dir
for 'several configuration files' /etc/courier. In my installation of Courier
it is not the case because there is no such directory, I assume it is /usr/lib/courier/etc?<br>

Anyway, I did not found there any <b>local</b> nor <b>me</b> file, so I created
<b>local</b> file with following lines:<br>
<i>mydomain.com<br>
.mydomain.com</i><br>
according to instructions from the a.m. html document.<br>
After trying to send message using Mozzila Mail after some time I got warning
that says something like "Mail server responded: DNS lookup failure. Please
check your email address".<br>

Does this mean that Courier does not read my local file? I tried to change

If most of the courier configuration files are there. I believe that's=20=

the default installation directory.

One would assume that you've put your own domain there? My locals file=20=

reads:
sitharus.com
Just a single line, as I only use one domain for email.

It means the domain you're using doesn't have a DNS entry. So I guess=20
you've put mydomain.com in instead of your own domain name. If you=20
don't have one, you'll need to register one.

You are right, but  according to instructions, Courier should not make 
DNS lookup at all, since this domain is defined in locals file? I am 
testing this mail server on our intranet. Is it possible the way I am doing?

You still need to be able to look up the address - courier does check 
it. You have to create a valid A or MX entry that points to the mail 
server processing it. You can't use /etc/hosts either ;)

Put both domains in hosteddomains, and define an account called 
"user@..." and "user@...".  End of story.

I think some of Your questions are answered along the thread, but
I think I'll sort out a few things, tryout your (at first sight)
excellent Courier-Filter, and get back to the questions - hopefully
with some solutions, too.

Hello ...

I am currently using Exim 3 on a Debian testing box, with virtual domain POP
support, amavis (virus scanning, spamassassin, etc)..

I'm looking to implement virtual domains using IMAP, as well as POP3, but
I'm not really certain how to do so, but been told by a few people that
courier imap is the way to do it.

The website reads that courier is an MTA, as well as POP3, IMAP, etc.
daemon..  but a lot of the how-to's and FAQs often use sendmail, exim,
procmail, etc.

So I guess what I'm asking, is what do I need?  Virtual domains is a must,
including being able to handle forwarders, pop3 and imap (as stated above)..
spamassassin / virus scanner functionality is a must these days as well,
local SMTP delivery would be nice..

But surely someone out there, using a debian box, has done (or is doing)
something similar to this?

Any help would be appreciated...  pointers, etc. would be great :)
