I've installed courier 0.35.0 on an intel maching running FreeBSD
I set up userdb authentication with imapd, pop3d, and esmptd. Local mail
delivery works, I can connect via imapd and create folders, move mail
around, and delete it, and pop seems to be working as well. However, esmtp
is another story.
I start esmtpd, and it doesn't complain about anything. netstat -a shows
that it is listening on the smtp port. Connections to this port don't seem
to get anywhere -- outlook express eventually times out. If I telnet to the
port, I don't get a greeting, and there is no server response to any input I
type, though netstat on the server shows a connection to the remote machine.
The recv-q grows, and the send-q stays at 0. This being my first attempt at
using esmtp authentication, I thought maybe it was an authentication issue,
so I set AUTH_REQUIRED="0" and edited
/usr/lib/courier/etc/smtpaccess/default to open up the relay all the way
I ran makesmtpaccess and restarted everything, but I still get the silent
socket treatment. Just to be sure it wasn't a blocking issue, I added:
18.104.22.168 allow,BLOCK="550 TEST BLOCKING"
and ran makesmtpaccess and restarted everything, but that did not give me a
blocked message as I expected it to do.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong? I've re-read
the installation instructions a couple times, but don't see anything that
seems to be related. Several searches through google and the mailing list
archives haven't turned up anything helpful either. I can provide config
files or logs (though the logs don't mention estmpd at all) if that would
Thanks in advance,
