Hi all, this message is directed to external members of carlino developers group that read this mailing list. I saw that there is some downloads of CarLinO sources from CarLinO web site. I would like to remind to all that CarLinO is under GPL license and its source usage is cover by this license. For example if someone includes this source code or links these libraries (statically and dynamically) in his project, he must be publish his source code and make it available to all. WARNING: any violation of the GPL license WILL BE REPORTED by me to the Free Software Foundation. Man favors the prepared ... Regards, Arty |

Hi developers, I noticed that when checkout the project CarLinO in your own directory the Kdevelop project doesn't work because it work on 'enrico' home directory only. Kdevelop works with absolute path and I'm not been able to configure it for relative paths (the options is presents in kdevelop but I didn't understand how it works). So, I've move the project in common directory /opt/SourceForge to allow to averyone open it with kdevelop, if used the same path. You can re-checkout the project with: > sudo mkdir -p /opt/SourceForge > sudo chown -R <my-user>:<my-group> /opt/SourceForge > cd /opt/SourceForge > svn checkout https://carlino.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/carlino Enjoy, Enrico & Arty |

Hi developers, CarLinO is migrated in CMAKE project. If you make 'svn update' the repository sould updates. To configure the project in text mode: cmake -i . To configure the project with GUI cmake-gui . To configure the project with standard parameter: cmake . To compile use normal 'make' command (make, make clean, ...) enjoy, Enrico & Arty |

Hi all, CarLinO is migrating to CMAKE tools to allow the build under Microsoft (sorry). You can find more information at website: www.cmake.org. Currently I've created a branch for this tools in: https://carlino.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/carlino/branches/cmake When it will be ready I'll substitute the 'trunk' with CMAKE version of CarLinO (v0.50). The current 'trunk' with autotools will be moved in branch/carlino-0.43-am Ciao, Enrico & Arty |

Hi developers, how are you? What's the weather in your site? I'm melting like an ice cream in the sun ... During this holidays I've intrduced the standard X3D into CarLinO project. This standard is very interesting because allow to describe a complete dynamic 2D/3D scene using XML text files. It is very useful in CarLinO because we could design a full OpenGL dynamic HMI interface or others graphics object sending a simply XML text file to CarLinO service. X3D is full compliance with C++ and OpenGL and integrate very usefull concepts like: sensors, shaders, animation and so on ... It is a very new ISO standard (dated 2008). If you would like to know more you can refer to http://www.web3d.org website. Take a look to CarLinO repository to see the code written right now about new CarLinO libraries: libX3D and libGOAL. After holydays we'll organize a meeting do discuss about CarLinO evolution ... Thanks to all. Good summer !!! Enrico & Arty |

Hi developers, as you, I was involved in various business activity and the CarLinO developing has been delayed in this weeks. Anyway I've done a little bit progress in CarLinO developing and I would like to share with you some news: *POSIX objects* Seems that some POSIX implementation are not yet completed in Linux. For example the POSIX semaphore are not yet implemented the 'named' semaphores. I've discovered this analyzing the source code of glibc version 2.9 used in Ubuntu 9.04. Moreover the sem_timedwait seems doesn't work properly, so I've removed as mentioned in next paragraph. *Timeouts* To avoid the use of sem_timedwait I've rewrite lot of class in *AP*namespace and *AMICO* namespace. Now the only timed calls are that one in the socket based function using 'select'. All functions based on semaphores are blocking without timeout. To exit from neverending wait status I've implemented the destroy function for semaphores that it will called during class destroying. This has improved the robustness of the code and semplified the code debugging.* CarLinO protocol* I've done some progress in CarLinO protocol. I've introduced the *Active Message* classes to manage comunication between *CarLinO_core*/* CarLinO_process* and *CarLinO_leash* classes. Every message sent to CarLinO could run an 'action' on receiver to do something. *AMICO Primitives* I've completed the AMICO RPC (Remote Procedure Calls) called AMICO Primitive Calls. Now we can call single function and class methods in remote processes. Now we have to integrate this functionality in the CarLinO protocol. *Future objetives* I would like to prepare a demos with CarLinO by the year 2009, using a target very next to an embedded system (like a netbook based on Intel ATOM processor) to show this CarLinO capabilities: - CarLinO fast boot - CarLinO/AMICO process communications (IPC + RPC) - Demo of complete system based on CarLinO with graphic applications based on QT4 (Map engine + simple HMI (QT4 fluiddemo) + Player video (phonon)) - Demo of developing model with CarLinO platform This my dream, do you copy? Regards and good week ! Artemisio Palagotti Enrico Serretti |

Yes, this is a known problem for Ubuntu 8.10. There is a conflict beetwen the libtool version used in 8.10 and the kdevelop. I hope that with new version of Ubuntu (9.04) this problem has been resolved. Anyway the workaround provided from Marco can be used for 8.10. Hi developers, me and Arty have done some changes in AMICO protocol to optimize the code and try to increase the performances. Using ADS5121 Freescale platform, we saw that we need a very soft layer for IPC/RPC communications. Moreover the Share Memory doesn't aid the performance (consider that UNIX socket uses shared memory at low level and shared memory needs synchronizations ...). So, we have done this changes: - Removed Shared Memory direct support (AMICO_shm class) - Removed TCP support (only UDP protocol o socket) - Removed Synch/Async methods (only data not pre-allocated) Moreover this items will remain open. If someone would like to re-implement it can do. I've holded the 0.13 CarLinO version in carlino/branches/carlino-0.13-co folder. The new version of CarLinO in repository is 0.20. Would you like to do a conference-call on Monday 7 April ? We'll try to use SKYPE, my account is 'eserretti'. Let me know your dubd or questions... Hi developers, I've committed something to carlino repository. Now we have a first carlino console. You can build it with 'make' and 'make test' inside the 'qemu' folder. The kernel run the carlino application at the startup. Take a look to AMICO protocol. Now it seems completed (the Shared Memory option too). You can test the protocol using tests application in the 'test' folder. I'll wait your comments and help requests. Bye, Arty.
