this patch, message.c fails to compile.

Great.  They work here too.  I would really like to back port these changes to 
2.2.5, but I think it is too risky until is is all tested a good deal more.  
In the mean time, I'll be releasing 2.2.5 sometime next week -- even though 
it isn't as "good" as the SVN code, it is certainly a big improvement over 
2.2.4 ...

FYI, same tests run on 2.2.5, maxvol-test and maxvol2-test fail.  If 
I recall correctly, maxvol2-test didn't used to fail on 2.2.5

Yes, thanks for pointing it out, but it is OK.  I am reluctant to back port 
the changes for that fix to 2.2.5.

Well, maxvol2-test didn't fail before, because it did not exist.  It is a new 
version of maxvol-test that fails every time rather than occasionally as 
maxvol-test does.

because enh_fnmatch.c has truly been eliminated in the trunk, but not yet in 
2.2.x.

It sounds like the trunk compile is failing.  Could you post the details of 
the "make setup".  That should indicate the problem.

Forgot to add BASEPORT= (*grumble*) I did it in the branch, must have
forgotten in trunk.  Looks like it's going to run now.

I seem to recall reading that BASEPORT was optional, but it's certainly
a requirement for getting through the regression tests.

Well, we probably could make a lot of these optional, but Dan's recent work to 
permit multiple simultaneous regression tests made it required.

For regression testing, BASEPORT is now optional.  If not specified 
in regress/config, it will default to 8101.

Unfortunately, that doesn't change anything.  Still fails.

It's tough to make a useful report of the problem as _everything_ seems
to fail.  The errors are consistently of the form:

Yes, Frank has figured it out.  I apparently had an old .o file in my source 
directory so running the tests did not show up the problem.  Next time I make 
such large changes, I will export the source from the SVN to avoid the 
problem.

Please just do an "svn update" on the source directory, and the tests should 
now run.

Sorry for the pain, and many thanks to everyone for the quick turnaround 
time :-)

OK, now that everything is running again, I am seeing success on all
tests except maxvol-test on FreeBSD 6.2/PostgreSQL 8.2 with batch
insert enabled.
