I am only aware of the "plot Spectrum" command. What else
can you "also use"? If I use plot spectrum, the spectrum is
only purple. Where do you get intensity displayed?

 As mentioned, you can use Effect|Reverse to reverse a section as well as the "Change Speed" effect to alter the playback speed (in 1.2x)
 Another way to change the speed is to click on the track's drop-down options and use the "Set Rate" option to quickly change the playback speed of the one track (the "Change Speed" effect requires you to process the track which takes some time, whereas the "Set Rate" option is instant and doesn't result in any altering of the samples in the track).

 Another program I've used (QuickEditPro) has a jog/dial type speed control which lets you instantly play forwards or reverse in varying speeds. I'll add it to the features wiki :-)

Is this from the latest CVS on the AUDACITY_1_2 branch? That compile.txt 
has no mention of  audacity.mak.

Both of the project does not work as follow the steps given

   a) audacity.mak  - not present
   b) After loading the project file(s) - Alt+F7 not option show
       to choose Build -> Rebuild ALL and other option likw wxWindows
  
What should I do?  FYI - I was able to compile wxWindows.

Hi,

For some (probably obvious) reason, I have only a bare minimum of
control buttons showing on my palette (such as 'play', record', 'stop'
'volume'.

Is there a feature that hides the rest?

I have been recommending our faculty at Acadia University use Audacity when
digitizing their courseware for the past little while. The only thing I can
see that it is missing is a 3D Spectrum Analyzer which features not only
frequency but intensity. Could this be added as a plug in?

The only option right now is to use "Fit Vertically".

Audacity 1.2.0-pre2 configures, compiles and installs fine on my
Mandrake 9.1 system, but I get lots of messages of the type

on the console when I run Audacity and the screen is not at all properly
drawn. The versions of pango that audacity seems to depend on in this
setup are:

Audacity works great on my computer at work, that runs red hat 9. No
errors are output to the console and ldd returns nothing about pango.

According to earlier correspondence, this seems to be a Mandrake-only
issue? Maybe I'll just wait for your next release?

Hello,

I've just begun using Audacity, and have a question about marks. I'm 
recording music using a digital multitrack recorder (Korg PXR4). I can 
put marks into the PXR4 file at places so that you can fast-forward to 
that spot in the track. These marks don't import into Audacity when I 
import the audio, so I wonder if there's a way to placed marks in the 
Audacity file. My ultimate goal is  to be able to burn the AIFF files to 
an audio CD, and be able to navigate inside the tracks on the CD using 
the skip button. Is there any way to do this?

Actually, I think it may be the Tascam drivers that are failing under 10.3.

I tried a simpler sound recorder app and I think it is having problems too.

Tascam put up an updated driver for 10.3 support yesterday...

Audacity now looks like its trying to work, but still has strange problems.

I can record about half the time, the other half of the time I get one second
bursts of audio separated by one second silence...  When I can record I can't
generally play back (silence).  If I try repeatedly to play back sometimes I 
can succeed... but the recording breaks again.

I guess this is the driver's fault?

I'm a new Audacity user - I've been playing with 1.2.0-pre 2 (Windows
XP) for a couple of days, and I'm quite impressed.  I have encountered a
couple of problems, however.  My apologies if these have already been
addressed.
 
1)       I get an error message when I save or open an Audacity project;
 
Cannot convert from encoding 'windows-874'!
 
I have no idea what this means.  The projects save and load perfectly
well, regardless.
 
     2)    There seem to be some problems concerning the click track. 
If I try to generate a click track into a project already containing
other tracks, it either fails to run at the required BPM (producing a
very occasional click) or drops the clicks into the middle of an
existing track.  If the click track is generated first, it works okay,
but when waves are then imported, I get an error message saying that
Audacity has encountered a problem, and needs to close.

hey is there a way to resize all tracks at the same time, or set the 
width of the default track to be smaller than the default? I often will 
work with 15+ tracks on my laptop on a 1024x768 screen.

It looks as though a bug was introduced when the choice of sample format was
added in Preferences, because version 1.0.0 works ok (in 16-bit).
Judging from the experiences of those who have reported the problem, it
seems to be independent of hardware used, and also OS, but I don't know
about the Mac version. Anyway, hopefully the next release should be ok.
