I found this thread in the Archive, and my problem matches
the subject, but not exactly the original question:
I've got artsd running, and start audacity with a sound-file
and want to play it.
- The green button goes down (and seemingly has a full grab)
- it tries to open /dev/dsp and hangs
After that, I've got something like a deadlock-situation:
audacity is the only receiver of any X-events, and it hangs.
I cant switch to an xterm, or make artsd release /dev/dsp or
anything the like.
I need to (under linux) switch to a text-console and kill audacity,
to get my desktop back into an usable state.
To solve this problem, audacity should either only grab the mouse,
(such that Alt-Tab still works), or open /dev/dsp non-blockingly,
or make sure, that the fopen happens only after the button (and the
grab) is released. *wish,wish,wish*
