If I add a recording profile:
and record with that profile, the linked stereo track created does
have the "left" and "right" channel names correctly stored in the
project or autosave file.
Similarly, if you start with mono tracks having different names and
"Make Stereo Track", the name of each channel is still there in the
The problem only comes when you do "Split Stereo Track", which
changes the right channel to take the name of the left. Since the
project supports storing a separate name for both channels even
when you start with a linked stereo track, I cannot see any
justification in discarding the right channel name on "Split Stereo
Track". Can you?

I think it should be addressed, unless I'm missing something here.
I often fall foul of it because if I want to edit channels of a stereo
track separately I will often use the channel names to store editing
I know I could use labels, but as I will often export intermediate
files before completing the project I prefer to use the name.
