I'm writing to you four because you all reported an Audacity bug
(the Preferences window is blank or takes a long time to display)
which I can't reproduce. I'd like to fix it, but I'll need your
If you don't have the time or interest, please disregard this
email and I promise I won't bother you again.
First of all, I'm providing a newer version of Audacity - it
may have fixed the problem, and it may not have. It also
includes a profiling tool which may help me figure out where
it's going wrong.
Download this special version of Audacity here:
The general report is that when you select Preferences, a window
appears but it is blank. The computer appears to "freeze".
However, according to some, items are actually in the window,
but you can't see them until you click on them. Try clicking
near the top of the window to select different tabs, or try
hitting "OK" near the bottom-right corner (even though you
can't see them).
If this works, let me know. If nothing you try works at all,
let me know that too.
If there appear to be problems with the Preferences window,
but you are able to hit the "OK" button, then AudacityProfiler
should generate a file called "app.prof" - please send me this
file; it will help me figure out what's going on.
Finally, if you are very patient and feel very helpful, you can
try rebooting with different Extension sets to see if there is
an Extension conflict. A program such as Conflict Catcher
would help a lot for something like this, but it would help me
just to know if Audacity works any differently with only the
standard Apple Extensions. If so, I'd be interested to know
what nonstandard Extensions you run, even if you haven't taken
the time to figure out which one is actually causing the problem.
Thanks very much for your time!
