Apertium: machine translation toolbox

Apertiumers:

I have just crashed xixona (i.e, http://www.apertium.org). Her hard disk was 
full, and she was choking, and I could not get a listing of /tmp to 
clean up a bit, so I typed

sudo shutdown -r 0

She said she was going to reboot, but didn't work out well: she hasn't 
come back.

Please accept my apologies for this. I hope someone will locally be able 
to boot her up on Monday.

Hi,

Xixona is up and running. Most probably it did not reboot immediately 
because of disk checks and the like.

The key point is, in a multimap, while the keys are unique, the values
are not. You have to assume that was deliberate. In the tagger, you
can consider the disambiguation process to be choosing the best value
from a number of alternatives, so it's vital that you have those
alternatives. Luckily, you don't need to do much to emulate a multimap
in Java - use Lists for your values.

I'm glad to see you're not repeating my mistake of trusting that code :)

Okay, but I do have another question now. The multimap is defined as:
multimap<int, vector<int> >. So there are lists of integers that may
have ambiguous keys. And when retrieving them, there may be a list of
lists returned if there is an ambiguous key. Is that correct?
(If so, I think that I'll need to do something like Map<Integer,
List<List<Integer>>)

Nic Cottrell made the crude (find-and-replace-ish) port of the C++ code but
my impression is that he did not have a deeper understanding of the C++ code
he ported. Later on Jimmy continued.

Neither I, Jimmy or Nic are really familiar with the C++ code, and therefore
neither of us can really give a good answer.

I could take the time to set things up and step-by-step debug thru the C++
code to get deeper understanding, but if the writer of the C++ could reply,
that would be great.

That's probably the best bet for now - until some of us have a deeper
understanding of how it's used.

I agree. don't trust the parts in the 'tagger' package.

committed relevant changes to PatternList as well as a couple of other

Granted, that's not the aspect of the GPL I was looking at.

But... you have not established that there has been a violation of the
GPL, let alone a 'clear' violation: from what you said, you looked at
the website and saw no source download available - that's only one of
4 options for the distribution of source provided by section 3 of the
GPL.

For the record, WinXLator does not comply with any of those 4 options:
the installer does not contain the source code (which would satisfy
3a), nor does it provide an offer to provide the source code (3b), nor
does it provide information about how to acquire the original source
code (section 3c - but this only holds if (as is very likely the case)
that the source code has not been modified).

WinXLator also does not comply with section 1 of the GPL. It also does
not comply with the fundamentals of copyright - all copyright notices
(for the various components of Apertium, for CG, and for Cygwin) have
been omitted.

BTW, Apertium *does* work, unmodified, on Cygwin. It's a bit of a pain
to get all of the required modules, etc., installed in Cygwin, but it
does work. Fran's GSoC student is using it, if any feedback is
required.

(Pasquale made the last of the required changes several months ago. I
thought he mailed the list about it, but I may be misremembering.)
