You can write news items and documentation after registering on the site. All such submissions are reviewed before being posted on the site. You can also get access to modify existing articles if you just ask :-)
Having a Wiki section would probably not help that much...

RSS support for news has already been added, but I have now added the "alternate representation"-tag as well (browsers like Firefox will now display a RSS icon on the address bar).

I was thinking, we would have a ton of members if we could put a image of our stats in our signature for forums.

You said the exact same thing in the Freeciv forums. That will not work here because the FreeCol forums do not allow signatures or embedded images.
