Researches have shown that immediate feedback can increase energy saving dramatically. YoMo aims to empower people using low-cost open hardware smart meters in their household. The metering system consists of a coordination unit, a raspberry pi, and several smart meters, arduino boards equipped with communication shields and our self-designed yomo metering shield. The smart meters are attached to household devices and monitor their energy consumption. The gathered data is timestamped and transmitted to the coordination device. This device offers interfaces to control the smart meters. On top of the software runs a apache webserver that provides all estimated data on our yomo project homepage. The system does not need any maintenance and works out of the box after the devices were integrated into the households Wi-Fi network. EBF, which stands for Efficient Binary Format, is a binary file format for reading and writing binary data easily. Reading writing routines are currently available in C,C++,Fortran,Java, Python, IDL, MATLAB. A program called ebftkpy which has a set of utility functions to work with the .ebf files , e.g., viewing the contents and getting a summary, is also provided. The EBF specification is designed to be concise and easy to understand to make it easier for others to write their own code if needed. It is also designed to simplify the programming of input output routines in different programming languages. In a nutshell an EBF file is a collection of data objects. Each data object is specified by a unique name and a single file can have multiple data objects. Each data object is preceded by a meta-data or header which describes the binary data associated with it. Among other things, this header allows the files to be portable across systems with different endianess.

Processing of smallRNA-Seq data to gather biologically relevant information requires application of multiple statistical and bioinformatics tools from different sources, each focusing on a specific step of the analysis pipeline. The analytical workflow can be challenging for the continuous interventions by the operator, a critical factor when large numbers of datasets need to be analyzed at once. To allow a flexible and comprehensive analysis of smallRNA-Seq data we designed a novel modular pipeline, called iMir, integrating multiple open source modules and resource in an automated workflow, devising different statistical approaches to analyze data rigorously. iMir comprises also a Graphical User Interface (GUI), so that the pipeline is particularly suited for biologist and early stage bioinformaticians and produces both graphics and text outputs.
