Upcoming feature deprecation: built-in forums, docmanager, task manager

The SourceForge.net has added a number of refined Open Source applications to our offering through our Hosted Apps service. To best meet the needs of our users and focus our development time on for the greatest value, we are deprecating some of the built-in features of the SourceForge.net offering, and providing a migration path to the superior Hosted Apps.

For each application replaced, we are running a survey to determine which migration options users need. The survey will run for approximately 30 days. We’ll be doing a mailing next week to notify users of the surveys. We’ll do a subsequent mailing once the surveys conclude, and provide more information about timeline for data migration and feature shutdown. Deprecated feature shutdown has not been scheduled yet, but we think it will occur in the 37-90 days timeframe.

We intend to provide dumps of the data from each application, allowing projects to meet any custom needs they may have, and will also provide a migration facility to move data to selected Hosted Apps.

The following features are being deprecated (replaced):

Are there also plans to deprecate the SF.net Wiki and migrate that to MediaWiki as well?

What about the SF.net tracker? Could also be done by Trac… Any plans for that?

For both items: if there’s a 100% migration path provided (so, no loss of data and history at all), I’m all for it.

    manuelbi,

The Wiki Spaces docs may be migrated now if you like. We have the 2 new OSS wiki’s available, so you can do that if you like.

We have been using Trac since March and have stopped using our Tracker. As well, our Site Documentation, http://p.sf.net/sourceforge/index is now Trac based as well. We totally re-wrote this to take full advantage of wiki’s.

    Best regards,

Is there a migration path for us to move our tickets from Tracker to Trac?

  7. hinojosa says:

    Hi,

As we have not made plans to remove Tracker, we have not crafted this solution. However, there is an Open Source script out there that may work. We have not made an option to migrate in either case.

    Best regards,
