Naming rules
General statement
As a general rule, we ideally want to avoid any possible legal issues in this game at the end.
Target material
We may take some releases to reach this target, as we inherited several real-life branded material from Torcs :
- cars (car manufacturer names, brand names on the liveries, and even 3D models)
- tracks (track names, brand names in the ads along the tracks)
- car sets / racing series (names)
Remaining issues
As for now (r2020), we are nearly done apart from our car 3D models being mainly real life cars.
Car material
In order for our users to easily keep their favorite cars in mind, we set up the following list of real life car manufacturer name replacements (not yet consensual choices are marked with a ? ) :
- Alfa Romeo => Milano
- Aston Martin => Archer
- Auto Union => Motor Union
- Audi => Vieringe
- Bugatti => Ettore
- Citroen => Citrus ?
- Dodge => Taipan

- Ford => FMC (F stands for ... um ... something)
- GM/Corvette => Vulture
- GM (other brands) => Deckard, except for Corvettes, which will be Vultures (see above)
- Honda/Acura => Murasama
- Jaguar => Lynx
- Lamborghini => Toro
- Lister => Newcastle (a Storm model for LS1 is simply called the "Fury")
- Lotus => Spirit
- McLaren? => Conner
- Maserati => Tridenti
- Mercedes => Silber
- Mitsubishi => Minato
- Mosler => ?
- Nissan => Kanagawa
- Peugeot => Lion
- Porsche => Boxer

- Subaru => Kenji
- Toyota => Aichi
- TVR => RCM (Russian Car Manufacturer)
- Venturi => ?

As a rule to enforce, we also set that any car in the game should have a brand name and a model name, as well as belong to a category ; the name of its folder and main files (.xml, .ac, .png, .wav) must reflect this as far as possible (Ex: Supercars / Lynx 220 in sc-lynx-220 folder in data/cars/models).
