Gauge problems with 36GP cars

Reported by: kakukri Owned by: somebody
Priority: trivial Milestone: 2.1.0
Component: Cars Version: 1.4.0-dev
Keywords: 36GP gauge speedometer Cc:

Description

There are a few problems with the gauges:
1.) In the Motor Union the indicator is not pointing to 0 when the car is standing
2.) In the Ettore the first tick is 30 instead of 0, at least the indicator points to this while standing

3.) Some inconsistency: Milano 12c/36 and Silber has a digital speedometer inside the analog one, while the others have not.

Still present with the Motor Union. Tried to fix it, it is now reasonably accurate betwen 0 and 250, but the 300 mark seems to be at the wrong place. Also the Silbers speedo is not 100% accurate compared to the digital speedo. Some of the other 36GP cars might have this problem, too. Will check all of them while setting up.

The gauges for the gp36 have been totally re-worked, so unless anyone complains I'll close this out.

Just tested them, the Silber's speedometer is still not correct, the others are OK, and look very nice.

The Silber's speedo is 15 months old in SVN, while the others are more recent (5-7weeks).... did it get reworked (and/or missed updating)?

The GP Silber was reworked by me many months before the others get reworked by Uwe. So tell me what is incorrect with it? Which standard set i should use as a preset to fix it?

The look is OK, but the scale is not. If you look at the digital sppeds and at the analog one, you can see that the analog shows 5-10% less. The tachometers scale is wrong, too. At idle it shows ~1050 RPM, whereas the tickover is 1125 RPM. At the rev limiter it stops around 7900, while in the xml file you can see the rev limiter is set to 7500 RPM.

Hopefully the ticks are distributed equally (by eye it looks they are), then no need to rework the textures, only to reset tachometers and speedometers min vaue, max value, min angle and max angle values. 0 at the speedo seems right, so if you get, say 300 kph right, hopefully it will be OK. With the tachometer, you can use idle RPM and the rev limiter to set the scale right.

Just looked at the other cars tachometers, and turned out only the Century, Ettore and Motor Union has right scale. Seems the others are intentionally wrong to have the same look as in real life. Can you confirm it, Uwe?

Personally, I would like the gauges to show the correct value, so when rev limits are not exactly like in real life (probably most of the 36GP cars), then keep the look of the real tachometer, but change the scale to fit our values.

The Milano 12c36 was fixed in r4675, and the Silber in r4676.

The tipop3 and the Tridentis remain for 2.1, as in these cases the tachometers scale is not big enough for the maximal rev - either the scale needs to be changed, or the engine curve.
