Description
Hello,
In https://sourceforge.net/project/admin/group_trove.php?group_id=201326 , one can set the license. This allows using
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License :: Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License V2.0
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License :: Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License V2.0
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License :: Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License V3.0
There are many problem with this:
Noncommercial content should not exist on SourceForge.net
Hosting content under licenses that prohibit commercial use on SourceForge.net is most likely an infringement, as SF.net uses the website to make ad revenue, which is a form of commercial use.
Thus Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License V2.0 should not be an option.
"Creative Commons Attribution License" should be category + name only
The format appears to be "Tagtype :: Category :: License", when multiple licenses have the same category ("Creative Commons Attribution License" or "OSI-Approved Open Source"), this is only different, when there is no category ("Other License", "Public Domain"). In this case, it should be
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License :: Creative Commons Attribution
rather than
License :: Creative Commons Attribution License
Version number should probably be added as well.
"Creative Commons Attribution License" is not the correct general term
There are no "Creative Commons Attribution Licenses", only "Creative Commons Licenses" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_license ), the category should be re-named accordingly.
CC license versions less than 3.0 not DFSG-compatible
Debian Legal has stated that 2.5 and below of cc-by-sa is not compatible with Debian's Free Software Guidelines. See http://wiki.debian.org/DFSGLicenses
Recommendation
1. Remove Non-Commercial license
2. Change Category
3. Remove 2.0 version
4. Add version number to attribution license
5. Notify projects using such licenses of the changes.
The end result would look like this:
License :: Creative Commons License :: Attribution 3.0
License :: Creative Commons License :: Attribution ShareAlike License 3.0
