Sourceforge site peformance sub-optimal
|Reported by:||tetsuo55||Owned by:||nhruby|
As i have discussed on the irc channel on several occasions, Sourceforge.net is one of the slowest sites on the net, of all the sites i visit.
Strangely enough SF itself seems to think the site is performing very well
Some comparisons, keep in mind these timings only measure part of the story, if i use a stopwatch several seconds can be added to these:
Sourceforge.com +/- 4 seconds
Mcdonalds.com +/- 5 seconds (unlike sourceforge mcdonalds includes a huge flash ad)
FBI.gov +/- 0,5 seconds
http://code.google.com/ +/- 1,5 seconds
these tests have been made with chromiums built in "firebug" and i have submitted similar results through beacon.
Google offers several solutions for troubleshooting and correcting performance issues like the ones on sourceforge, and indeed the google/chromium speed tools provide a lot of feedback on which areas could be improved
This google blog post describes a new w3c api for accurately measuring website peformance:
Using a recent built of chromium, the built in dev tools can provide a lot of information about what needs to be improved:
Finally google has a webpage with more general advice on site performance:
When using hosted apps and logging in performance drops considerably, load times of 15seconds are no exception, loading this enw ticket page took 10 measured seconds, and about 12 seconds on my stopwatch.
