!SemanticScuttle is based on [http://sourceforge.net/projects/scuttle/ Scuttle] (an open-source clone of [http://del.icio.us/ Del.icio.us] whose development is [http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=749062 frozen today]).

A social bookmarking tool like Del.icio.us allows users to collectively bookmark webpages indexing them with tags (i.e. terms freely chosen). Some of the greatest advantages of tagging systems are :
  * they are easy to use,
  * they quickly create a lot of metadata about webpages,
  * they are really efficient to find popular pages about a subject on the web.

However, these aspects '''can be improved''' with some new features about the organization of tags, or interactions between users.

Based on Scuttle, !SemanticScuttle is a tentative to explore new exciting features.

The (not totally decided) foreseen features of !SemanticScuttle are :

  * '''collaborative descriptions''' : a common place for users to describe resources. Del.icio.us implements personal comments. We think small communities need also a kind of wiki space to build up collective knowledge.
  * '''!OpenId authentification''' : a social bookmarking tool is just a piece among others web 2.0 applications. A modern authentification mecanism is needed.
