Image Tools is a desktop application to capture the display as an image, or open an existing image file, crop and/or annotate if necessary, and save the image.
This project was registered on SourceForge.net on Mar 13, 2009 as UNIX name "imagetools".

Image Tools is Free Software not Shareware. You will not be bothered into buying the "full version" or paying to make the messages stop. We do hope you like Image Tools and help us continually improve it, whether it's by a monetary donation ,participating in the users mailing list, or as a developer helping with patches or new features.
Help Wanted
Image Tools is currently developed and maintained by one developer. The project is seeking volunteers to help out with Java development, localization (translating), and program testing. If anyone is interested in contributing, please contact carl.marcum at codebuilders.net.

1.4.0 released
2009-08-01
This is the final release of version 1.4.0.
New features include cross-platform printing and enhancements include white background behind text annotation for better contrast.
We have finalized this release and are continuing main development.

Image Tools is Open Source software distributed free of charge under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
Platforms
Image Tools is written in Java and is OS independent. It should run on any operating system with a compatible Java Runtime version 1.5 or newer including Linux, UNIX, Mac OSX, and Windows.
It has been successfully tested on:
- Windows XP using Sun Java 1.5 and 1.6
- Windows Vista using Sun Java 1.6
- openSUSE 11.1 Linux using Sun Java 1.5 and 1.6
- Ubuntu 9.04 Linux using OpenJDK 1.6

Current
Image Tools currently includes the following features among others:
- Screen Capture
- Crop to rectangular selection
- Image Annotation including lines, rectangles, and simple text
- Open existing jpeg for cropping or annotation.
- Undo/Redo
- Choice of red or blue color for annotations
- Choice or Serif or Sans Serif fonts in heights of 10, 12, 14, and 16 points
- Cross-Platform Printing
- Contrasting background color behind text annotations
- Installer for Microsoft Windows platforms
Planned
Planned features for upcoming releases include:
- Polyline (polygonal chain) annotation
- Linux installer
