21:06 Ticket #103 (add console connection capability like mstsc.exe /console) created by wbathurs

It would be beneficial to be able to connect to the console. This can be done using mstsc client right now using the /console flag.

20:49 Ticket #102 (Implement a low-bandwidth mode) created by jturtle2004

It would be nice if there was an option in the Performance section of the server inspector, or as an alternate connection option, to allow for "low-bandwidth mode" that would be optimized for slow or laggy connections. This would disable several of the bandwidth-hogging features and fix / work around the cursor problems.

01:20 Ticket #99 (Keep After Disconnect broken...) created by npeelman

1) Quick Connect to a server
2) Choose Keep after disconnect

Server doesn't get saved to ~/App Support/CoRD/Servers/

I've been messing with this for about 20 mins now, its pretty repeatable for me anyway. Even if you edit data about the server after telling it to keep it, it still isn't being saved.

01:14 Ticket #98 (More drawing glitches on Disconnect...) created by npeelman

Using the latest nightly i'm still getting remains of sessions that can hang around after disconnecting...

See screenshot...

00:19 Ticket #97 (Applescript Support) created by npeelman

Support for Applescript...potential uses:

  • retrieving saved session list
  • retrieving individual session data
  • adding new servers or groups
  • editing individual sessions or all sessions in a group
  • editing sessions matching XXXX
  • connecting/disconnecting sessions or groups of sessions
  • sending commands to remote systems or groups of remote systems (requires #96)
  • ability to log out of sessions or groups of sessions (see comment in #96)
00:14 Ticket #96 (Add Support for sending command upon connect) created by npeelman

This is supported by RDP, and is generally used to start a program upon connect. My vision is that it could potentially be used by smaller shops / consultants to fire off silent installers or updaters. The deployment of such files can be automated and is relatively easy, but the execution of them is generally a pain in the arse since Windows (out of the box) doesn't allow for command line connectivity.

Combined with Applescript and/or Command line support and this gets to be really powerful, without a lot of work on our part. I haven't investigated the RDPSpec to see what it allows for, jdabney and I have talked about it informally and I think I've brought it up on the developers list before, but I wanted to get a ticket in for it.

There are a handful of implications: do we get any data back; if so how do we handle it?

This is one of those instances where it would be useful to also be able to send a log off so that a logoff could be scripted.

15:52 Ticket #94 (client hostname parameter) created by muzso

The Remote Desktop Protocol requires the client to send a sort of an identifier ("client hostname" as rdesktop calls it) to the server. CoRD currently sends the hostname (fqdn) of the local host, but it'd be beneficial if the user could specify this "hostname" (which can be actually an arbitrary string) in the GUI. Both rdesktop and tsclient (a GTK2 frontend to rdesktop) have built-in support for this functionality, thus most probably there's a real demand for it.

A real-world use of this feature is that Windows Terminal Services assigns temporary licenses to clients based on the client hostname. A temporary client license is usually valid for 90 days. But changing the "client hostname" allows for indefinite use of temporary client licenses.

Last year I've made a patch for the that time (28th June 2008) available SVN version of CoRD. It'd be nice if this feature could be incorporated into CoRD core.

You can find my old patch (+ complete modded source and built binary) attached to my blog post at: http://muzso.hu/node/4368

Ok, I finally figured out the use case for this, and it does present some interesting scenarios...

This guy has better explanations than i could stumble through:

http://muzso.hu/2007/11/08/cord-vs.-temporary-client-licenses
http://muzso.hu/2008/06/28/cord-v0.5.0-beta-with-client-hostname-support

Essentially when you connect to a TS Server with CoRD it uses your hostname to generate a temporary CAL. When I read these reports I was assuming they were wanting to set the hostname of the REMOTE machine in the inspector or something. But the feature request is actually the ability to set the hostname CoRD hands down to the remote machine. I'm not sure how best to handle this in the GUI without making it confusing. A "Do Not Use Default Hostname" checkbox that you can uncheck to enable a text box (That maybe gets some hostname+RandomGibberish to populate it?) is the only thing i can think of…

12:00 Ticket #91 (problem using CoRD with Perforce P4V client) created by topnotes

I've found a problem with Perforce (source control system www.perforce.com) P4V client for Windows. When I'm using Cord (0.5) from my Mac(latest version of Leopard) to remote-desktop to my office PC (Windows XP Pro), the Perforce client works fine up to the point I commit a changelist. At the point a dialog box appears where you can enter details of the changes, the box fails to be drawn properly and since it's modal there's no way of cancelling it(since only the frame of the box appears - none of the screen content). So effectively the whole Perforce program becomes inaccessible. I've spoken to the Perforce support team who have looked into this. They suspect there might be some issue with Cord interacting with Qt4 libraries they use. The latest Perforce P4V client uses Qt4. But I tried using an older version of P4v which used Qt3 libraries and that worked fine with CoRD. This is just a suspicion : there's no evidence to say that it is anything to do with this.
I have a couple of workarounds. One is to install the older P4V client on my Office PC, but that lacks some functionality I need. The other is to use the Microsoft remote desktop client for Mac, but that's nowhere near as nice as CoRD.
Would appreciate it if you could look into this.

If you have more than one server session open in FULL SCREEN mode, when you log off or lose connection with any of them, then CoRD crashes. If you are NOT in full screen mode, all is OK.

This existed in the previous major version as well.

Forgive me if I should have created a new ticket for each of these. I figured one big Ticket would be better. I downloaded 0.5 today and some of these are new some are not.

1) Applies to previous versions also. Windows 200 Servers - The option to Save Password does not work. I still have to type it, I am not automatically logged in
2) Windows 2000 Server. Version 0.5 desktop icons are black and cannot be read. This was fine before. So now it is worse. If you click an icon you can see and read the name otherwise they are black.
3) Arrange by Label sorts upper case before lower case. A connection with a name starting with X comes before a.
4) There should be a way to arrange connections how you like then select Keep Arranged and stay even if not alphabetically.
5) Looking forward to the ability to have groups or folders.
6) Would like the ability to view multiple connections at a time.
Thanks,
Ryan

19:25 Ticket #84 (Add support for Machine-level saved sessions (/Library)) created by npeelman

One of my pet peeves with apps is not supporting Apple's System/Network/Machine/User domain paradigm for data storage/usage. (it becomes particularly frustrating since some (many) of Apple's own pieces don't follow this)

It would be wonderful if during the move to using Groups (I'm envisioning several "parent" groups, or at least one with the hooks to create more as needed) we created a "parent" group for Machine-level servers that live in /Library/Application Support/CoRD/.

This is one of those edge cases that may or may never be important, but it won't take much to implement if we engineer Groups properly. I can see it being a bigger deal in managed environments (which is where my peeve comes from since I [live in|work in|run] managed environments...) where there should be a set of *always* there servers while still allowing the user to define and keep their own set.

This would probably force us to pay a little more attention to file permissions, though I'm not sure that the frameworks wouldn't handle that for us anyway?

It will just print `'s to the screen.

03:10 Ticket #77 (cmd-w doesn't close the window...) created by npeelman

With the redefinition of the cmd-W in the latest commits, the principle CoRD window doesn't close when its the last thing open, at least not for me.

I don't necessarily agree that the inspector should be closed by cmd-w either. I don't remember any other apps with panels that close via that, Esc is the traditional way, or perhaps i am misremembering.

Somehow munged r307 and didn't commit AppController?: this commits the crash fixes mentioned there

* change behavior of "Cmd-W" to be more natural, fix issue when "Close Window"

  • this fixes an issue where cord would be left in an unusable state if you closed the fullscreen window
  • inspector now closes when you hit Cmd-W
  • no hacks required to make the preferences window close on Cmd-W
  • pressing cmd-w in Fullscreen now exits fullscreen, not close the session

* change "Search Servers" keyboard shortcut to Cmd-Opt-F, to match Finder, Safari, iTunes, etc

18:08 Changeset [410] by arcadiclife

Thought we took care of this, but perhaps not: [crash against r396 attached]

06:04 Ticket #75 (Crash on clicking the server in a drawer) created by endorphinity

It crashed when I clicked on the single server in a drawer. I never connected to that server, just entered its IP address.
