Looking to spend time playing the pipe organ. I have the MIDI controller, Muse on my laptop, and have read about this Aeolus. I have it installed as well.
Has anyone used this before? Looking at getting it running, it seems like a lot. Want to see if anyone is using this Aeolus, or another option, for pipe organ.
Seems to me Aeolus is a good choice for playing pipe organ, hadn't tried it before and went through some hoops before it started working but it sounds good now.
First question, are you interested in just playing with aeolus or do you want to record your performances?
If you just want to play with aeolus you don't really need MusE.
This page http://www.muse-sequencer.org/index.php/Aeolus
does go through setting it up. It's getting a bit old but I think most is still relevant.
If you want to connect it through MusE there are some additional steps. I'm assuming you have used muse before so I'm going through it briefly, if this isn't the case do let me know.
1. Start jack with midi support (append -Xseq at the end of the argument list should do it)
2. Fire up muse
3. Setup your midi controller as input device in MusE
4. Add a midi track and connect the port to the aeolus:Midi/in
5. Add an audioinput,
-make sure it's stereo and unmuted,
-connect it's input to Aeolus out L and R
-connect it's output to Out 1
6. Rec enable the midi track and play your keyboard. Aeolus should make sound.
Oh, that's right, what stumped me with aeolus is that on my installation the midi configuration in aeolus wasn't complete.
You need to enter Midi menu in aeolus and connect the keyboard in a relevant way... (I have to confess I'm not entirely sure what this does)
