I'm trying to get the older Tux Racer (0.61) songs into the game, but they're in Impulse Tracker, not Vorbis, therefore won't work. I've been searching for ways to loop an OGG via loop points. Everything leads to the program RPG Maker VX, where the program is capable of reading the LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH metadata tags of OGG files. I figured it was universal for all OGGs... I was wrong.
I'm working on the obvious: start1-jt. The current menu music is too slow for a racer, in my opinion. Since Audacity doesn't recognize IT files, you need to convert it to OGG somehow: used XMPlay. I downloaded OGGENC, changed the output device via its options to it, and played the song out. It gave me two files for its two sections; I only needed the first one. Opening that new OGG in Audacity, I found the perfect loop for the song. Since the values for the metadata tags need to be in samples, you change the selection data on the bottom of the program by clicking the arrow next to a timer, and choose 'samples'.
I'll give you the selection start and length (choose its radio button): LOOPSTART = 980764 :: LOOPLENGTH = 858596
So I add these two tags to Audacity's metadata editor (Note the capitalization). Eventually made the tracks monaural, and exported as an OGG. Played it back in XMPlay... no loop. Tried it in a temporary installation of WinAMP... same result. I even edited the metadata through that, as others in the RPG Maker forums recommended it: still no-good.
I really want to get proper loops out of the game's music, so... yeah.
