I can't say if the following is really the cause, only a conjecture. When I rewrote the audio module I found a problem with playing music pieces in a loop (a bug in SDL_mixer?). First time the music sounds nice, but the replays forget the music adjustments, the volume for example. To avoid this the adjustments should be refreshed in all frames. In old Tuxracer 0.61 there was a function "update_audio" (or similar) that only adjusts the volume. I can't say if this function call exists in ETR, too.

You're right, I just tried it on my Ubuntu system. We need to get to the bottom of what's wrong with the music in general. The ogg files play fine the first time around, but then they start to click on the loop...

I think this is a known bug. Or at least it also happened on my PC with 0.4. It doesn't happen anymore on 0.5 beta since it uses ogg files instead.

The music in ETR is taken care of by the SDL mixer library. Make sure you have the latest from the repository.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and Extreme Tux Racer. For some reason, the Impulse Tracker music files skip a bunch of notes. When I play them in an Impulse Tracker player, they are just fine. The version in the repositories, which I am using, is 0.4-2ubuntu1. The music is really annoying.

My PC Specs:
nVidia GeForce 210 w/ 2 Monitors
2 GB RAM, 2 GB swap
2x AMD Anthlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (x86)
Not quite sure on my sound card. Apparently it is Realtek, but my motherboard is nVidia and it lists 2 or 3 sound devices.
GNOME 2.30.2

Some unspecified time before now (at least a few months ago), it works fine.
