From xml-holidays
Welcome to the xml-holidays project
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xml-holidays/
What is the purpose of this project?
The xml-holidays project suggests an open source standard how to formulate international holidays in XML and it provides actual holidays definitions for many countries. Furthermore we care not only about the current holiday rules, but also of historic holiday definitions.
What does the project not provide?
Despite we prefer to code in Java, in this project we concentrate on a holiday xml standard only and the standard should be independent of a programming language. Therefore an actual software implementation which parses that xml-data is out of the scope of this project - at least for now.
What is the license of the project?
All files in the xml-holidays project are covered by the 3-clause BSD license which is known to be compatible with the GPL. You can use the xml-holidays in both free software and even in a commercial project. Nonetheless you should read the license.
Where does the idea come from?
The idea for this project came from the project called NumericalChameleon - an open source unit converter since 2001 (GPL) which is able to perform holiday calculations since 2004. We will extract and enhance the holidays from the NumerialChameleon project. The members of the NumericalChameleon project will work on an actual implementation in order to read and understand the xml-holidays data.
