SmartBody is a modular, controller-based character animation system. SmartBody uses the Behavior Markup Language (wiki spec and discussion forum) to describe a character's performance, and composes multiple behaviors into a single coherent animation, synchronizing skeletal animation, spoken audio, and often other control channels.
SmartBody is a research project by the University of Southern California's Institute for Creative Technologies and Information Sciences Institute. We are also working in collaboration with other BML working group researchers from around the world.
SmartBody is free to use, but we would appreciate if you let us know what you create with SmartBody, and reference our papers in your work. We'll happily include a link back to your work.
