Since letters depend on language and, e.g. for German umlauts are used or cyrillic letters in Russian, pieces can specified in the tab letters. Some sets are predefined. If you choose one of those, letters, count, and values are adopted as well as the number of jokers below the table. Sometimes it might be necessary to change an entry. This cannot be done in the table itself but is done using the edit fields below it.
All settings except the design are applied on game start. Therefore, changes during a game will be available after starting a new game. This also applies to network games. In that case all data are transmitted (and inserted in the dialogue) from the player that starts a new game.
How to change a set
To adopt the letter set three edit field below the table are used, which are filled when a row is clicked. Modifications are accepted after clicking the right hand button. This button is context sensitive: it shows a minus to remove the entry (if all three fields are equal to a table row), a plus (if the letter is not found in the table) or some sort of yin-yang symbol to change the entry. In principle, only single letters can be used - an input of digraphs beyond the unicode standard is not possible. Lower cases are converted automatically.
After each modification the table is checked for a standard set. If one is found the text is adjusted otherwise special will be displayed. If you repeatedly want to use more than one non-standard set it can be saved using different presets.
For instance, a non standard set would be necessary for Superscrabble. To change all number of letters, just click on one row, change the value and accept it by clicking the button with yin-yang symbol. Since that procedure could be annoying, you can also copy the complete table (right click or Ctrl+C) and modify it somewhere else. To paste values use Ctrl+V or right click; all data are overwritten. Attention should be paid to the jokers that are not copied/pasted.

Number of pieces
On the right side, the number of pieces can be adjusted. Usually, Scrabble is played with 7 or 8 letters but you can change the value to more or less, just as you want.
A completely new feature of Scrabble3D is the introduction of random letters. You specify the number of pieces that are chosen randomly from the table. These letters are added to the set. If all letters in the (very special) set would have a count of zero and 100 random letters are requested, the game is completely randomized with 100 letters. But it makes sense to use a small number for an ordinary game with some surprise potential.
