About SMT

SMT: SAR Management Toolkit is an experimental Java application for assisting in the management of land searches for missing persons. It seeks to integrate several strands of modern search management theory - Bayesian recalculation of probabilities in search segments, and reflex tasking and probabilities based on missing person behavior statistics. GIS capabilities are embedded through the use of OpenJump.

A screencast demonstrating the features of version 0.6 is at: http://www.aa3sd.net/SMT_0.6_demonstration.ogv

Screenshot showing 5 segments with their initial POA values calculated from an underlying probability distribution based on statistical distances from the IPP for the subject category (Angler).

Running

Download SMT.jar, run with

java -jar SMT.jar

Using

User documentation for Using SMT

Building

Checkout SMT trunk from subversion, build with ant.

svn co http://svn.code.sf.net/p/sarmanager/code/trunk/SMT/ smt
cd smt
ant
cd dist
java -jar SMT.jar

ant targets include build, test, create_run_jar.

Note on issue crossreferences:

In the Sept 2012 upgrade of the project to the new Allura sourceforge platform, issues referenced in svn commits were renumbered. See the discussion at: https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/623/

Put the old issue number in as aid= https://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid= to get redirected to the new issue. https://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3420248 redirects to https://sourceforge.net/p/sarmanager/bugs/1/

Roadmap

  • Current state: 0.8 - Beta. Describe missing subject. Draw search area on map. Segment map. Assign probabilities to segments (Mattson/O'Connor/from statistical zones, and from merged human consensus and statistical zones). Assign resources to search segments. Calculate changing probabilities as areas are searched. Print task assignment forms. Edit configuration files. Print operational planning worksheet. Allow users to provide subject profile statistics. Log clues.
  • Release 0.9 - Beta. Add support for more ICS forms. Group assignments into operational periods. Group assignments by Division/Branch/Group. Add experimental PostGIS persistence for map layers. Display more information on timeline.
  • Release 1.0 - Split client/server, allow running with multiple simultaneous users. Full database persistence support. Document search. App client for task assignment/reporting.
