Scope
A system made to process information concerning the business ethics of corporations involves a database containing said information, as well as software to do the actual processing. BERTS aims to provide the software tools to do the processing, while the compilation of actual data to be processed is outside the scope of this project.
It's important to note that BERTS itself is neutral with respect to the information and ethical standards it is used to document.
Audience
BERTS is supposed to be used by individuals and organizations wishing to collect, process, and disseminate information pertaining to the ethical standards of corporations. These primary users in turn offer their knowledge and opinions to the public at large, using the services implemented in BERTS.
Intended users are financial investment managers handling funds with certain ethical requirements, such as restrictions against investments in firearms and tobacco industries, or activist groups promoting a particular agenda, such as reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
