This project provides a PCB extension to the Beagleboard, Beagleboard-xm and Pandaboard. While the initial motivation was to simply provide a LCD screen - that concept has grown into a complete, portable development board. The high level features of the board include:

  • LCD with touch screen
  • User push buttons including power on/off
  • Battery, battery charger and battery fuel gauge support
  • Full size SD card socket
  • Accelerometer
  • RS485
  • Extension header with GPIOs and I2C bus that are either 3.3V or 5V based.
  • Integrated USB JTAG debugger for Beagleboard or Pandaboard.

This project includes the Hardware Design and Implementation as well as the Software Changes needed to the boot loader and Linux kernel to support the hardware. The target operating system is Android 2.3 using the TI Android GingerBread 2.3 DevKit 1.0.

All of the pages in this project are read-only. Comments and suggestions are welcome and can be added by using the discussion tab on each page. These comments and suggestions will be then added into the design as appropriate.

Outstanding Work
  • Decide which battery to use.
  • Decide on headers/sockets to use between boards.
  • Verify physical layout of components.
  • Finalize all components and create a BOM.
  • Complete board layout and send prototype PCB for manufacturing.

Completed Work Items

  • Change LCD buffers to SN74LVC16T245 and input buffer to SN74LVC8T245 (Done)
  • Verify component values for LT3461 LCD Backlight and LCD Analog Power (Done)
  • Investigate routing BB-xm audio signals (P10) to edge of board (Done)
  • Investigate adding LVDS display support (Not done - removed)
  • Think about adding (replaceable) fuse or other current limiting device (PTC) to power supply (Not done - removed)
  • Verify components, component values, and design of each module (Done)
  • Decide how each module can be tested or bypassed and add test points (Done)
  • Changed to cheaper MMA7455L accelerometer (Done)
